Making room for motherhood.
A space for pregnancy, birth, infant feeding and maternal wellbeing.
Why I created Alba Mums
Hi, I’m Sofia. I’m a doula, lactation consultant and a mother myself.
Motherhood has been the most beautiful and rewarding experience of my life. It has also been one of the most humbling.
Like many women, I spent my pregnancy preparing as thoroughly as I could. I read the books, listened to the podcasts, attended the courses and researched everything I could get my hands on. I wanted to understand every option, every decision and every possible outcome.
Looking back, I realise I believed that enough preparation would give me certainty. Instead, I learnt that birth is a relationship with our babies, our bodies and circumstances we can't fully control. We can make informed choices, and those choices matter deeply, but we can't write the script.
My own birth unfolded very differently from the one I had imagined, and some of the fears I had quietly carried throughout pregnancy became my reality. Despite all the preparation, I found myself navigating the aftermath of an experience I never expected.
It took time to make sense of everything that had happened. As I did, I realised that what I had needed wasn't more information. I needed someone to help me make sense of it all. Someone who could listen without judgement. Someone who could help me understand my options without telling me what to do. Someone who recognised that whilst a baby had been born, so had a mother.
That was the moment I realised I wanted to become the person I had needed myself.
Supporting people through life's most vulnerable moments has always been at the heart of my work. Before becoming a doula, I worked as a human rights and humanitarian lawyer. One of the experiences that shaped me most was leading the Mother and Baby Unit in a refugee camp in Greece. Every day, I met women whose lives had been turned upside down by conflict and displacement. And yet, amidst fear, uncertainty and unimaginable loss, babies continued to be born.
I found myself deeply moved by the quiet persistence of motherhood. Life kept finding its way forward. Mothers continued to nurture, protect and love their babies with a determination that defied the circumstances around them.
That experience left a lasting mark on me. It showed me that motherhood is, perhaps more than anything else, an extraordinary act of hope.
When I became a mother myself, that admiration took on an entirely different meaning. It made me realise that I wanted to dedicate my work to supporting women through one of the most transformative periods of their lives.
I retrained as a doula, specialised in infant feeding support, and have continued to build my practice through ongoing learning and supporting families.
What that has taught me is that good support isn't about having all the answers. It's about helping women feel informed enough to make their own. That's the philosophy behind Alba Mums.
My role isn't to tell you what to do. It's to help you make sense of the information, understand your options and feel confident making decisions that are right for you and your family. To offer a calm, steady presence as you navigate pregnancy, birth and early motherhood.
I hope that when you leave a conversation with me, you feel lighter than when you arrived. More informed. More confident. And reassured that there is no one "right" way to do motherhood, only the way that feels right for you and your family.
Because whilst motherhood changes everything, it shouldn't mean carrying everything on your own.

You don't have to work through those questions alone.

Continuous support through pregnancy and early motherhood, so you never have to navigate either alone.
Preparing for birth is only part of the journey. The weeks that follow can bring just as many questions, emotions and adjustments as pregnancy itself.
The Bump & Beyond Package offers continuity of care across both of these significant chapters, providing personalised support before your baby arrives and as you begin to find your rhythm together afterwards.
Rather than starting again with someone new once your baby is here, we'll build a relationship that develops over time. I'll come to understand your hopes, your circumstances and the kind of support that feels most helpful to you, allowing our conversations to grow naturally as your needs evolve.
Whether you're preparing for birth, navigating feeding, adjusting to life with a newborn or simply looking for a trusted professional to walk alongside you, our time together is shaped around what matters most to you and your family.
Your journey includes
Six private 90-minute sessions, spanning pregnancy and early motherhood
Personalised, evidence-based support tailored to your family's individual circumstances
Continuity of care throughout your journey
Curated resources and recommendations where appropriate

MATERNAL SPACE
A space for the mother behind the mother. These one-to-one sessions are designed to support the emotional and practical realities of motherhood, helping you navigate challenges with greater clarity, confidence, and ease.
-
A dedicated space for you, in the midst of motherhood.
Motherhood asks so much of us. Amidst caring for everyone else, it can be difficult to find the time to pause, reflect and think about how you're doing.
Maternal Space offers just that.
These one-to-one sessions provide a calm, confidential space to talk openly about whatever feels important to you. There is no agenda to follow and nothing you need to prepare. Whether you're navigating a major transition, processing your birth experience, rebuilding confidence, balancing the demands of family life or simply looking for space to be heard without judgement, our conversation begins with you.
My role is not to tell you what to do, but to listen with compassion, ask thoughtful questions and offer evidence-based guidance where it feels helpful, creating a space where you can reflect, make sense of your experiences and move forward with greater clarity and confidence.
Your session includes
One private 90-minute session
A confidential, supportive space centred around your needs

Ongoing support for the changing experience of motherhood.
Sometimes one conversation is enough.
Sometimes what you need is the opportunity to return, reflect and continue exploring the experiences that unfold over time.
This package offers the continuity to do just that.
Across four sessions, we'll build a relationship that allows us to revisit challenges, celebrate progress and create space for the questions and transitions that naturally arise throughout motherhood. Rather than starting from the beginning each time, our conversations can deepen as we get to know one another, providing support that's responsive to where you are in that moment.
There is no expectation to arrive with solutions or a list of concerns. Together, we'll create a space that belongs entirely to you.
Your journey includes
Four private 90-minute sessions
Continuity of support across your journey
A confidential, non-judgemental space for reflection
Evidence-based guidance where appropriate
Curated resources and recommendations where relevant

Support doesn’t always fit neatly into a package. You may want a little more preparation before your baby arrives, some extra support in those first weeks, or simply someone to call on at a particular point along the way.
Alba can be shaped around you. If you have something different in mind, get in touch and we can work around what feels right for you and your family.
Everyone buys something for the baby.
This one's for mum.
For the new mum who has everything for the baby, give something that's just for her.
An Alba gift card can be used towards postpartum support, feeding support or a little space to feel cared for in those early weeks.
